Abdullah Hakim Quick: Who Invented Valentine’s Day? (Video)
In the Student Union Center at the University of Miami, Abdullah Hakim Quick delivers another enlightening and unforgettable talk about the true origins of the major holidays celebrated in the West. With many non-Muslim students in attendance, Sheikh Quick explains that throughout time there has been a constant struggle between those who believe in one God and those who believe in many gods. And these struggles resulted in many compromises on the part of those who would ultimately influence and shape many modern day religious ceremonies and celebrations. And what comes to us today are rituals not condoned by the prophets and messengers of God, but rather mixed-up beliefs and practices that can be attributed to ancient pagan culture. The major celebrations analyzed in this talk are: Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Halloween.

Sh. Haitham: My first response to the Paris incident
By: Shaikh (Dr) Haitham Al-Haddad
“Allāh and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O you who believe! Send your blessings on him, and salute him with all respect.”
Alḥāmdulillāh, today is the auspicious day of Jumuʿah (Friday), a day for which we know as reported by Aus b. Aus (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) that the Messenger of Allāh (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) said:
“Among the best of your days is Friday; so supplicate Allāh more often for me in it, for your supplications will be displayed to me.” He was asked: “O Messenger of Allāh! How will our blessings be displayed to you when your decayed body will have mixed with the earth?” He (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) replied, “Allāh has prohibited the earth from consuming the bodies of the Prophets.”
Asking Muslims to condemn terror must stop
By: Max Fisher
There’s a certain ritual that each and every one of the world’s billion-plus Muslims, especially those living in Western countries, is expected to go through immediately following any incident of violence involving a Muslim perpetrator. It’s a ritual that is continuing now with the Sydney hostage crisis, in which a deranged self-styled sheikh named Man Haron Monis took several people hostage in a downtown café.
Here is what Muslims and Muslim organizations are expected to say: “As a Muslim, I condemn this attack and terrorism in any form.”
