20 Rak’ahs after Maghrib> Narrated Aisha: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: He who observes twenty rak’ahs after the sunset prayer Allah wil build a house for him in Paradise.

3 Rows at Funeral Prayer> Narrated Malik ibn Hubayrah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If any Muslim dies and three rows of Muslims pray over him, it will assure him (of Paradise). When Malik considered those who accompanied a bier to be a few, he divided them into three rows in accordance with this tradition.

99 Names of Allah> Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is Witr (one) and loves ‘the Witr’ (i.e., odd numbers).

Attest to the Piety of the Deceased> Narrated Anas ibn Malik: A funeral procession passed and the people praised the deceased. The Prophet said, “It has been affirmed to him.” Then another funeral procession passed and the people spoke badly of the deceased. The Prophet said “It has been affirmed to him”. Umar bin Al-Khattab asked (Allah’s Apostle (p.b.u.h) ), “What has been affirmed?” He replied, “You praised this, so Paradise has been affirmed to him: and you spoke badly of this, so Hell has been affirmed to him. You people are Allah’s witnesses on earth.

Avoid Arguments and Lying> Narrated AbuUmamah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for a man who avoids quarrelling even if he were in the right, a house in the middle of Paradise for a man who avoids lying even if he were joking, and a house in the upper part of Paradise for a man who made his character good.

Be Kind-Hearted> Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: May I Point out to you the person who is forbidden for the Fire, or on whom the Fire of Hell is forbidden? The Fire is forbidden to touch everyone, who is closer to the people, soft, lenient, and is kind-hearted.

Be Polite, Provide Food to Needy, Fast Frequently, Observe Tahajjud> Narrated AbuMalik Al-Ash’ari ; Ali ibn AbuTalib: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: There is in the Paradise an apartment, the exterior of which can be seen from its interior, and the interior of which can be seen from its exterior. Such apartments have been prepared for those who are polite in talk, provide food (to the needy), fast frequently and observe the Tahajjud prayer when the people are asleep.

Belief in Islam> Narrated ‘Ubada: The Prophet said, “If anyone testifies that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone Who has no partners, and that MUhammad is his Slave and His Apostle, and that Jesus is Allah’s Slave and His Apostle and His word which he bestowed on Mary and a Spirit created by Him, and that Paradise is true, and Hell is true, Allah will admit him into Paradise with the deeds which he had done even if those deeds were few.” (Junada, he sub-narrator said, ” ‘Ubada added, ‘Such a person can enter Paradise through any of its eight gates he likes.”)

Belief in One God> Narrated ‘Utban bin Malik Al-Ansari: who was one of the men of the tribe of Bani Salim: “Allah’s Apostle came to me and said, “If anybody comes on the Day of Resurrection who has said: “La ilaha illal-lah, sincerely, with the intention to win Allah’s Pleasure, Allah will make the Hell-Fire forbidden for him.”

Belief in One God and Prophet Muhammad (SAW)> It is reported on the authority of Anas b. Malik that the Prophet of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) adressed Mu’adh b. Jabal as he was riding behind him to which he replied: At thy beck and call, and at thy pleasure, Messenger of Allah. He again called out: Mu’adh, to which he (again) replied: At Thy beck and call and at thy pleasure. He (the Holy Prophet) addressed him (again): Mu’adh, to which he replied: At thy beck and call, and at thy pleasure, Messenger of Allah. Upon this he (The Holy Prophet) observed: If anyone testifies (sincerely from his heart) that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His bondsman and His messenger, Allah immuned him from Hell. He (Mu’adh) said: Messenger of Allah, should I not then inform people of it, so that they may be of good cheer? He replied: Then they would trust in it alone. Mu’adh told about it at the time of his death, to avoid sinning.

Belief in Oneness of God> Narrated Mu’adh ibn Jabal: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said to Mu’adh: The key to Paradise is the testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah.

He answered: His mouth and genitals.

Date-Fruit in Charity> Narrated ‘Adi bin Hatim heard the Prophet saying: “Save yourself from Hell-fire even by giving half a date-fruit in charity.”

Death from Drowning, Plague, Abdominal Disease> Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Martyrs are those who die because of drowning, plague, an abdominal disease, or of being buried alive by a falling building.” And then he added, “If the people knew the Reward for the Zuhr prayer in its early time, they would race for it. If they knew the reward for the ‘Isha’ and the Fajr prayers in congregation, they would join them even if they had to crawl. If they knew the reward for the first row, they would draw lots for it.”

Death from Illness> Narrated AbuHurayrah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “He who dies of an illness dies as a martyr, or he will be guarded from the trial in the grave, and will have his provision brought him morning and evening from Paradise.”

Death from Plague, Drowning, Burning, Pregnancy> Narrated Jabir ibn Atik: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “There are seven types of martyrdom apart from being killed in Allah’s path. Those who die of plague, those who are drowned, those who die of pleurisy, those who die of an internal complaint, those who are burnt to death, those who are killed by a building falling on them, and women who die while pregnant, are martyrs.”

Death of 2 Children> Abu Hassan reported: “I said to Abu hurarira that my two children had died. Would you narrate to me anything from Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) a hadith which would soothe our hearts in our bereavements? He said Yes. Small children are the fowls of Paradise. If one of them meets his father (or he said his parents) he would take hold of his cloth, or he said with his hand as i take hold of the hem of your cloth (with my hand). And he (the child) would not take off (his hand) from it until Allah causes his father to enter Paradise. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Tamim with the same chain of transmitters. And he is reported to have said: Did you hear from Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) anything which may soothe our heart in our bereavements? he said: Yes.

Death of 3 Children> Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, “A Muslim whose three children die before the age of puberty will be granted Paradise by Allah due to his mercy for them.”

Death of a Child> Narrated Ali ibn AbuTalib: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “The abortion will dispute with his Lord when He causes his parents to enter Hell, and will receive the reply, “You abortion who are disputing with your Lord, bring your parents into Paradise.” He will then draw them with his umbilical cord till he bring them into Paradise.”

Donate Clothing, Food and Drink> Narrated AbuSa’id (al-Khudri): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If any Muslim clothes a Muslim when he is naked, Allah wil clothe him with some green garments of Paradise; if any Muslim feeds a Muslim when he is hungry, Allah will feed him with some of the fruits of Paradise; and if any Muslim gives a Muslim drink when he is thirsty, Allah will give him some of the pure wine which is sealed to drink.

Dressing with Humility> Narrated Mu’adh ibn Anas: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A person in spite of having the means to wear decent garments, abstains from wearing them out of sense of humility for the sake of Allah, will be called by Allah on the Day of Judgement in preference to all the human beings and will be given the option to choose whichever of the mantles of faith he likes.

Dying Invoking the Oneness of God> Narrated ‘Abdullah: The Prophet said one statement and I said another. The Prophet said “Whoever dies while still invoking anything other than Allah as a rival to Allah, will enter Hell (Fire).” And I said, “Whoever dies without invoking anythingas a rival to Allah, will enter Paradise.”

Endurance during Trials> Narrated AbuUmamah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated that Allah, who is Blessed and Exalted, said “Son of Adam, if you show endurance and seek your reward from me in the first affliction, I shall be pleased with no lesser reward than Paradise for you.”

Fasting> Narrated Aisha: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Reciting the Qur’an during prayer is more excellent than reciting it at other times, and reciting the Qur’an at a time other than during prayer is more excellent than extolling Allah and declaring His greatness. Extolling Allah is more excellent than sadaqah, sadaqah is more excellent than fasting, and fasting is a protection from Hell.”

Fasting and Qur’an> Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Fasting and the Qur’an intercede for a man. Fasting says, ‘O my Lord, I have kept him away from his food and his passions by day, so accept my intercession for him.’ The Qur’an says, ‘I have kept him away from sleep by nighty, so accept my intercession for him.’ Then their intercession is accepted.”

Fasting during Ramadan> Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Whoever observes fasts during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven.”

Fasting for the sake of Allah> Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Allah said: The Fast is for Me and I will give the reward for it, as he (the one who observes the fast) leaves his sexual desire, food and drink for My Sake. Fasting is a screen (from Hell) and there are two pleasures for a fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord. And the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better in Allah’s Sight than the smell of musk.”

Five Pillars> Narrated Abu Huraira: A bedouin came to the Prophet and said, “Tell me of such a deed as will make me enter Paradise, if I do it.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Worship Allah, and worship none along with Him, offer the (five) prescribed compulsory prayers perfectly, pay the compulsory Zakat, and fast the month of Ramadan.” The Bedouin said, “By Him, in Whose Hands my life is, I will not do more than this.” When he (the Bedouin) left, the Prophet said, “Whoever likes to see a man of Paradise, then he may look at this man.”

Follow the Sunnah> Narrated AbuSa’id al-Khudri: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: He who eats lawfully earned food and acts according to (my Sunnah) and mankind is safe from any excess on his part, will enter Paradise. Thereupon someone said: Allah’s Messenger, verily in these times there are many of that description. Whereupon he (the Prophet) said: And many such willl there be in ages after me.

Follow what has been Prescribed> Narrated AbuHurayrah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: (You are living) in an age that when he who abandons even one-tenth of that which he is prescribed, courts destruction. After this there will come a time when he who observes one-tenth of what is now prescribed will be saved.

Freeing a Muslim Slave> Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever frees a Muslim slave, Allah will save all the parts of his body from the (Hell) Fire as he has freed the body parts of the slave.” Said bin Marjana said that he narrated that Hadth to ‘Ali bin Al-Husain and he freed his slave for whom ‘Abdullah bin Ja’far had offered him ten thousand Dirhams or one-thousand Dinars.

Friendly Words> Narrated ‘Adi bin Hatim: The Prophet mentioned the (Hell) Fire and sought refuge (with Allah) from it, and turned his face to the other side. He mentioned the (Hell) Fire again and took refuge (with Allah) from it and turned his face to the other side. (Shu’ba, the sub-narrator, said, “I have no doubt that the Prophet repeated it twice.”) The Prophet then said, “(O people!) Save yourselves from the (Hell) Fire even if with one half of a date fruit (given in charity), and if this is not available then (save yourselves) by saying a good pleasant friendly word.”

Generosity> Narrated Abu Hurayrah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “The generous man is near Allah, near Paradise, near men and far from Hell, but the miserly man is far from Allah, far from Paradise, far from men and near Hell. Indeed, an ignorant man who is generous is dearer to Allah than a worshipper who is miserly.”

Gentle and Kind> Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Shall I not tell you who is kept away from Hell and from whom Hell is kept away? From everyone who is gentle and kindly, approachable and of an easy disposition”.
Ahmad and Tirmidhi transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying it is a hasan gharib tradition.
Give Respite in Monetary Transactions> Hudhaifa (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: A person died and he entered Paradise. It was said to him What (act) did you do? (Either he recalled it himself or he was made to recall), he said I used to enter into transactions with people and I gave respite to the insolvent and did not show any strictness in case of accepting a coin or demanding cash payment. (For these acts of his) he was granted pardon. Abu Mas’ud said: I heard this from Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him).

Give Salaam and Charity, Be Kind to your Relatives and Pray Tahajjud> Narrated Abu Yusuf Abdullah ibn Salam: Abdullah heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: O people! Spread the Salam (greetings), feed (the poor and needy), behave kindly to your blood relations, offer prayer when others are asleep, and (thus) enter Paradise in peace

Give your Salaam> Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessing be upon him) observed: You shall not enter Paradise so long as you do not affirm belief (in all those things which are the articles of faith) and you will not believe as long as you do not love one another. Should I not direct you to a thing which, if you do, will foster love amongst you: (i.e.) give currency to (the practive of paying salutation to one another by saying) as salamu alaikum.

Glorify Allah, Remove Obstacles for Muslims> ‘A’isha reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Every one of the children of Adam has been created with three hundred and sixty joints; so he who declares the Glory of Allah, praises Allah, declares Allah to be One, Glorifies Allah, and seeks forgiveness from Allah, and removes stone, or thorn, or bone from people’s path, and enjoins what is good and forbids from evil, to the number of those three hundred and sixty four, will walk that day having removed himself from Hell.

Good Neighbor> Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The best friend in the sight of Allah is he who is the well-wisher of his companions, and the best neighbour is one who behaves best towards his neighbours.

Hajj> Narrated Abu Hurraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever performs Hajj for Allah’s pleasure and does not have sexual relations with his wife, and does not do evil or sins then he will return (after Hajj free from all sins) as if he were born anew.”

Help Build a Mosque> Mahmud b. Labid reported that ‘Uthman b. ‘Affan decided to rebuild the mosque (of Allah’s Apostle in Medina) but the people did not like this idea and they wished that it should be preserved in the same (old) form. Thereupon he (Hadrat ‘Uthman) said: I heard Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: He who builds a mosque for Allah, Allah would build for him (a house in Paradise like it.

Help your Muslim Borther> Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: He who alleviates the suffering of a brother out of the sufferings of the world, Allah would alleviate his suffering from the sufferings of the Day of Resurrection, and he who finds relief for one who is hard pressed, Allah would make things easy for him in the Hereafter, and he who conceals (the faults) of a Muslim, Allah would conceal his faults in the world and in the Hereafter. Allah is at the back of a servant so long as the servant is at the back of his brother, and he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah would make that path easy, leading to Paradise for him and those persons who assemble in the house among the houses of Allah (mosques) and recite the book of Allah and they learn and teach the Qur’an (among themselves) there would descend upon them the tranquillity and mercy would cover them and the angels would surround them and Allah makes a mention of them in the presence of those near him, and he who is slow paced in doing good deeds, his (high) descent does not make him go ahead.

Hold No Resentment> Narrated Anas ibn Malik: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said to me: My son, if you are in a position to pass your morning and evening keeping your heart free from malice against anyone, then act according to it (this high ideal). He then said: My son, and that is my Sunnah and he who loves my Sunnah, in fact loves me and he who loves me, will be with me in Paradise.

Infants, Children buried Alive and Martyrs> Narrated Hasana’ daughter of Mu’awiyah: She reported on the authority of her paternal uncle: I asked the Prophet (peace be upon him): Who are in Paradise? He replied: Prophets are in Paradise, martyrs are in Paradise, infants are in paradise and children buried alive are in Paradise.

Invoke Blessings on the Prophet> Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: The one nearest to me on the Day of Resurrection will be one who invokes the greatest number of blessings upon me.

Invoke Blessings on the Prophet (SAW)> ‘Abdullah b. Amr b. al-As reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: When you hear the Mu’adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; then beg from Allah al-Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah’s servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession.

Keep your Husband Happy> Narrated Umm Salamah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If a woman dies while her husband was pleased with her, she will enter Paradise.

Less Fortunate> Narrated Usama: The Prophet said, “I stood at the gate of Paradise and saw that the majority of the people who had entered it were poor people, while the rich were forbidden (to enter along with the poor, because they were waiting the reckoning of their accounts), but the people of the Fire had been ordered to be driven to the Fire. And I stood at the gate of the Fire and found that the majority of the people entering it were women.”

Looking after an Orphan> Narrated Sahl: Allah’s Apostle said, “I and the one who looks after an orphan will be like this in Paradise,” showing his middle and index fingers and separating them.

Loss of Children> Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “If anyone is predesceased by three of his children who did not grow old enough to sin, they will be a strong protection for him from Hell.” When Abdu Dharr said he had been predeceased by two, he told him that the same applied. Ubayy ibn Ka’b Abu Mundhir, the chief of the Qur’an readers said he had been predeceased by one, and he told him that the same applied.

Loss of Eyesight> Narrated Anas bin Malik: I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “Allah said, “If deprive my slave of his two beloved things (i.e., his eyes) and he remains patient, I will let him enter Paradise in compensation for them.”

Loss of a Friend or Loved One> Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Allah says, “I have nothing to give but Paradise as a reward to my beleiver slave, who, if I cause his dear friend (or relative) to die, remains patient (and hopes for Allah’s Reward).”

Love and Hate for the sake of Allah> Narrated Mu’adh ibn Jabal: Mu’adh asked Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) as to which faith is excellent. He said: That you love (any person or thing) for the sake of allah, hate for the sake of Allah, and that you keep your tongue busy in the remembrance of Allah. He said: Allah’s Messenger, is there anything besides this? He said: You like for the people what you like for yourself, and you dislike for them what you dislike for yourself.

Love for the Sake of Allah> Narrated Mu’adh ibn Jabal: Mu’adh heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: Allah, the master of honour, says: For those who love one another for the sake of fear of My majesty and magnificence, there will be high seats of light that will be the envy of prophets and martyrs.

Love of Allah and His Messenger> It is reported on the authority of Anas that the Prophet of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are three qualities for which anyone who is characterised by them will relish the sweetness of faith: he to whom Allah and His Messenger are dearer than all else; he who loves a man for Allah’s sake alone; and he who has as great an abhorrence of returning to unbelief after Allah has rescued him from it as he has of being cast into Hell.

Mondays and Thursdays> Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The gates of Paradise are not opened, but on two days, Monday and Thursday. And then every servant (of Allah) is granted pardon who does not associate anything with Allah except the person in whose (heart) there is rancour against his brother. And it would be said: Look towards both of them until there is reconciliation. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Suhail who narrated it one the authority of his father with the chain of transmitters of Malik, but with this variation of wording: (Those would not be granted pardon) who boycott each other.”

Morning and Evening Prayers at Masjid> Ata’ b. Yasar reported, on the authority of Abu Huraira, the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) as saying: He who went towards the mosque in the morning or evening, Allah would arrange a feast for him morning or evening in Paradise.

Mu’adhin> Narrated Abu Hurayrah: We were with Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) when Bilal got up to announce the Adhan and as he fell silent (having finished that) Allah’s Messenger said: He who utters the (words) like these with conviction, will enter Paradise.

Mu’adhin for 12 Years> Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: He who pronounces the Adhan for twelve years is assured of Paradise and sixty merits are recorded for him every day for (every) Adhan and thirty merits for every Iqamah.

Muslim Soul> Narrated ‘Abdullah: While we were in the company of the Prophet in a tent he said, “Would it please you to be one fourth of the people of Paradise?” We said, “Yes.” He said, “Would it please you to be one-third of the people of Paradise?” We said, “Yes”. He said, “Would it please you to be half of the people of Paradise?” We said, “Yes.” Thereupon he said, “I hope that you will be one half of the people of Paradise, for none will enter Paradise but a Muslim soul, and you people, in comparison to the people who associate others in worship with Allah, are like a white hair on the skin of a black ox, or a black hair on the skin of a red ox.”

Muslims Greeting> Narrated Al-Bara’ ibn Azib: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Two Muslims will not meet and shake hands having their sins forgiven them before they seperate.

Mustard Seed of Faith> Narrated Anas: I heard the Prophet saying, “On the Day of Resurrection I will intercede and say, “O my lord! Admit into Paradise (even) those who have faith equal to a mustard seed in their hearts.” Such people will enter Paradise, and then I will say, ‘O (Allah) admit into Paradise (even) those who have the least ammount of faith in their hearts.” Anas then said: As if I were just now looking at the fingers of Allah’s Apostle.

No Evil Omens> Narrated Ibn Abbas: Allah’s Apostle said, “Seventy thousand people of my followers will enter Paradise without accounts, and they are those who do not practice Ar-Ruqya and do not see an evil omen in things, and put their trust in their Lord.

Observe Fast for Allah’s Pleasure> Narrated Abu Said: I Heard the Prophet saying, “Indeed anyone who fasts for one day for Allah’s Pleasure, Allah will keep his face away from the (Hell) fire for (a distance covered by a journey of) seventy years.”

Observe Fasts> Narrated Sahl: The Prophet said, “There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it . It will be said, ‘Where are those who used to observe fasts?’ They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it.

Observe Prayer> Narrated Abu Dharr: Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) went out in winter when the leaves were falling. He took hold of two twigs of a tree and said: That is a twig, the leaves of which have fallen. He said: Abu Dharr! I said: Labbayk! O Allah’s Messenger. He said: Verily, when a believing servant of Allah observes the prayer seeking, only His pleasure, his sins fall from him just as the leaves have fallen from the tree.

Observe the Night Prayer> Narrated Ibn ‘Umar: If a man saw a dream during the lifetime of the Prophet he would narrate it to the Prophet. Once I wished to see a dream and narrate it to the Prophet I was young, unmarried, and used to sleep in the Mosque during the lifetime of the Prophet. I dreamt that two angels took me and went away with me towards the (Hell) Fire which looked like a well with the inside walls built up, and had two side-walls like those of a well. There I saw some people in it whom I knew. I started saying, “I seek Refuge with Allah from the (Hell) Fire, I seek refuge with Allah from the (Hell) Fire.” Then another angel met the other two and said to me, “Do not be afraid.” I narrated my dream to Hafsa who, in her turn, narrated it to the Prophet. He said, “What an excellent man Abdullah is if he only observes the night prayer.” (Salem, a sub-narrator said, “Abdullah used not to sleep at night but very little hence forward.”

Oneness of God> Narrated ‘Abdullah: Allah’s Apostle said, “Anyone who dies worshipping others along with Allah will definitely enter the Fire.” I said, “Anyone who dies worshipping none along with Allah will definitely enter Paradise.”

Oneness of God, 5 Prayers, Fasting in Ramadan> Narrated Mu’adh ibn Jabal: I heard Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) saying: He who would meet Allah (in the state) that he has not associated anything with Him, he has offered five (daily prayers), and observed the fast of Ramadan he will be pardoned. I said: Allah’s Messenger, should I not convey this happy news to them (to the Muslims)? He said: Let them go on doing good deeds.”

Patience after Calamity> Narrated Al-Husayn ibn Ali: The Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying, “If any Muslim man or woman suffers a calamity and keeps it in his memory, even if it happened a long time ago, saying each time it is remembered, ‘We belong to Allah and to Him do we return,’ Allah, who is Blessed and Exalted will give a fresh reward each time it is said, equivalent to the reward when it happened.”

Patience after Death of a Child> Narrated Abu Musa al-Ash’ari: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, When a man’s child dies, Allah Most High asks His angels whether they have taken His servant’s child and they reply that they have. He then asks whether they have taken the fruit of his heart, and when they reply that they have, He asks what His servant said. On their replying that he praised Allah and said, “We belong to Allah and to Him do we return,” Allah says, “Build a house in Paradise for my servant and call it the house of praise.”

Patience during Plague> Narrated ‘Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) I asked Allah’s Apostle about the plague. He told me that it was a Punishment sent by Allah on whom he wished, and Allah made it a source of mercy for the believers, for if one in the time of an epidemic plague stays in his country patiently hoping for Allah’s Reward and believing that nothing will befall him except what Allah has written for him, he will get the reward of a martyr.”

Perform Good Deeds> Narrated ‘Ali: “We were accompanying a funeral procession in Baqi-I-Gharqad. The Prophet came to us and sat and we sat around him. He had a small stick in his hand then he bent his head and started scraping the ground with it. He then said, “There is none among you, and not a created soul, but has place either in Paradise or in Hell assigned for him and it is also determined for him whether he will be among the blessed or wretched.” A man said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Should we not depend on what has been written for us and leave the deeds as whoever amongst us is blessed will do the deeds of a blessed person and whoever amongst us will be wretched, will do the deeds of a wretched person?” The Prophet said, “The good deeds are made easy for the blessed, and bad deeds are made easy for the wretched.” Then he recited the Verses:– “As for him who gives (in charity) and is Allah-fearing And believes in the Best reward from Allah.” (92.5-6)

Perform Wudu and Pray 2 rak’ahs> ‘Uqba b. ‘Amir reported: We were entrusted with the task of tending the camels. On my turn when I came back in the evening after grazing them in the pastures, I found Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) stand and address the people. I heard these words of his: If any Muslim performs ablution well, then stands and prays two rak’ahs setting about them with his heart as well as his face, Paradise would be guaranteed to him. I said: What a fine thing is this! And a narrator who was before me said: the first was better than even this. When I cast a glance, I saw that it was ‘Umair who said: I see that you have just come and observed: If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes the ablution well and then says: I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger, the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.

Pillars of Islam> Narrated Talha bin ‘Ubaid-Ullah: A bedouin with unkempt hair came to Allah’s Apostle and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards the prayers.” He replied: “You have to offer perfectly the five compulsory prayers in a day and night (24 hours), unless you wantto pray Nawafil.” The boudin further asked, “Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards fasting.” He replied, “You have to fast during the whole month of Ramadan, unless you want to fast more as Nawafil.” The bedouin further asked, “Tell me how much Zakat Allah has enjoined on me.” Thus, Allah’s Apostle informed him about all the rules (i.e. fundamentals) of Islam. The bedouin then said, “By Him Who has honored you, I will neither perform any Nawafil nor will I decrease what Allah has enjoined on me. Allah’s Apostle said, “If he is saying the truth, he will succeed (or he will be granted Paradise).”

Pious Reputation> Narrated Abu Al-Aswad: I came to Medina when an epidemic had broken out. While I was sitting with ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab a funeral procession passed by and the people praised the deceased. ‘Umar said, “It has been affirmed to him.” And another funeral procession passed by and the people praised the deceased. ‘Umar said, “It has been affirmed to him.” A third (funeral procession) passed by and the people spoke badly of the deceased. He said, “It has been affirmed to him.” I (Abu Al-Aswad) asked, “O chief of the believers! What has been affirmed?” He replied, “I said the same as the Prophet had said, that is: if four persons testify the piety of a Muslim, Allah will grant him Paradise.” We asked, “If three persons testify his piety?” He (the Prophet) replied, “Even three.” Then we asked, “If two?” He replied, “Even two.” We did not ask him regarding one witness.

Praise God> Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: For him who say: Holy is Allah and to Him belongs all praise, a date tree is planted in Paradise.

Praise during Affliction> Narrated Shaddad ibn Aws and as-Sunabihi: Shaddad and as-Sunabihi told how, when they went to visit an invalid, they said to him, “How are you this morning?” He replied, “I am quite comfortable this morning.” Shaddad told him to rejoice that his evil deeds had been atoned for and his sins remitted, for he had heard Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) declare that Allah who is Great and Glorious says, “When I afflict a servant of mine who is a believer and he praises me for the affliction I have brought upon him, he will rise from that couch of his as sinless as he was the day his mother gave birth to him.” The Lord, Who is Blessed and Exalted, will say, “I fettered and afflicted my servant, so record for him what you were recording for him when he was well.”

Pray 12 Rak’ahs> Umm Habiba (the wife of the Holy Prophet) reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: A house will be built in Paradise, for anyone who prays in a day and a nighty welve rak’ahs: and she added: I have never abandoned (observing them) since I heard it from the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). Some of the other narrators said the same words: I have never abandoned (observing them) since I heard (from so and so).

Pray Night of Qadr> Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards (not to show off) then all his past sins will be forgiven.”

Pray Nights of Ramadan> Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said: “Whoever establishes prayers during the nights of Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven.”

Pray at the Mosque> Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Allah will prepare for him who goes to the mosque (every morning and in the afternoon (for the congregational prayer) an honorable place in Paradise with good hospitallity for (what he has done) every morning and afternoon goins.”

Prayer and Cleanliness> Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, The key to Paradise is prayer and the key to prayer is cleanliness (Ablution).

Prayer at the Cool Hours> Abu Bakr reported on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him said: He who observed two prayers at two cool (hours) would enter Paradise.

Prayer, Kindness to Parents> ‘Abdullah b. Mas’ud reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, which of the deeds (takes one) nearer to Paradise? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Prayer at its proper time, I said: What next, Messenger of Allah? He replied: Kindness to the parents. I said: What next? He replied: Jihad in the cause of Allah.

Preserve Chastity> Narrated Sahl bin Sa’d: Allah’s Apostle said, “Whoever can guarantee (the chastity of) what is between his two jaw-bones and what is between his two legs (i.e. his tongue and his private parts), I guarantee Paradise for him.”

Prostration> It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that when, the son of Adam recites the Ayat of Sajdah (prostration) and then falls down in prostration, the Satan goes into seclusion and weeps and says: Alas, and in the narration of Abu Kuraib the words are: Woe unto me, the son of Adam was commanded to prostrate, and he prostrated and Paradise was entitled to him and I was commanded to prostrate, but I refused and am doomed to Hell.

Protect the Honor of your Brother> Narrated Abu Darda’: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: He who defends the honour of a brotherm Allah will shield his face against the Fire on the Day of Judgment.

Read Qur’an and Fast> Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Fasting and the Qur’an intercede for a man. Fasting says, ‘O my Lord, I have kept him away from his food and his passions by day, so accept my intercession for him.’ The Qur’an says, ‘I have kept him away from sleep by night, so accept mu intercession for him.’ Then their intercession is accepted.”
Bayhaqi transmitted it in Shu’ab al-Iman. [Tirmidhi]
Remain with the Community> Narrated Mu’adh ibn Jabal: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Verily Satan is the wolf of a man just as the wolf is (the enemy) of a flock. He seizes the solitary sheep going astray from the flock or going aside from the flock. So avoid the branching paths; it is essential for you to remain along with the community.

Rememberance of Allah> Narrated Abud Darda’: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Shall I tell you what is your best action, the purest in the estimation of kings, that which raises your rank to the highest, that which is better for you than spending gold and silver, and that which is better for you than that you should encounter the enemy to cut off their neckt, they cutting off yous? Tell us indeed, they answered. He said: It is the remembrance of Allah, the Exalted.

Remove Harm from Muslims> Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: A person while walking along the path saw the branches of a tree lying there. He said: By Allah, I shall remove these from this so that these may not do harm to the Muslims, and he was admitted to Paradise.

Remove Obstacles> Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying that he saw a person enjoying himself in Paradise because of the tree that he cut from the path which was a source of inconvenience to the people.

Sadaqah> Narrated Marthad ibn Abdullah: One of the companions of Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) told him that he had heard him say, “The Believer’s Shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his sadaqah.”

Saying Amin> Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Say Amin” when the Imam says it and if the Amin of any one of you coincides with that of the angels then all his past sins will be forgiven.” Ibn Shihab said, “Allah’s Apostle used to say “Amin.”

Seek Forgiveness> Narrated Anas ibn Malik: Anas heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: Allah, the Exalted, has said: “O son of Adam! Certainly I shall continue to pardon thee so long as thou supplicatest Me and hopest (for my forgiveness), whatever may be thy fault and sins. I don’t care. O son of Adam, even if thy sins pile up as high as the sky, and thou askest for My forgiveness, I will forgive thee. O son of Adam, if thou comest to Me with an earthful of defaults and meetest Me, not associating anything with Me, I will come to thee with an earthful of forgiveness.”

Seeking Knowledge> Narrated Al-Hasan al-Basri: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: He whom death overtakes while he is engaged in acquiring knowledge with a view to reviving Islam with the help of it, there will be one degree between him and the Prophets in Paradise.

Seven Types of People Shaded> Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. They are: 1) a just ruler 2) a young man who has been brought up in the worship of Allah, (i.e. worship Allah (Alone) sincerely from his childhood), 3) a man whose heart is attached to the mosque (who offers the five compulsory congregational prayers in the mosque); 4) two persons who love each other only for Allah’s sake and they meet and part in Allah’s cause only 5) a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for an illegal sexual intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah 6) a person who practices charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity). 7) a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes get flooded with tears.”

Shed Tears for fear of Allah, Stand Guard in the cause of Allah> Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: Ibn Abbas heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: The Fire will not touch two pairs of eyes: The one that sheds tears out of fear of Allah and the other that keeps watch through the night in the cause of Allah.

Sincere Good Deeds, Adopt Middle Path> Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “The deeds of anyone of you will not save you (from the Hell Fire).” They Said, “Even you (will not be saved by your deeds), O Allah’s Apostle?” He said, “No, even I (will not be saved) unless and until Allah bestows His Mercy on me. Therefore, do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately, and worship Allah in the forenoon and in the afternoon and during a part of the night, and always adopt a middle, moderate, regular course whereby you will reach your target (Paradise)..”

Spend in Charity> Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard the Prophet saying, “Who ever spends a couple (of objects) in Allah’s cause, will be called by the Gatekeepers of Paradise who will say, “O so-and-so, come on!” Abu Bakr said, “Such a person will never perish or be miserable’ The Prophet said, “I hope you will be among such person.”

SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar> Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: There are two qualities or characteristics which will not be returned by any Muslim without his entering Paradise. While they are easy, those who act upon them are few. One should say: “Glory be to Allah” ten times after every prayer, “Praise be to Allah” ten times and “Allah is Most Great” ten times. That is a hundred and fifty on the tongue, but one thousand and five hundred on the scale. When he goes to bed, he should say: “Allah is Most Great” thirty-four times, “Praise be to Allah” thirty-tree times, and Glory be to Allah thirty-three times, for that is a hundred on the tongue and a thousand on the scale. (He said:) I saw the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) counting them on his hand. The people asked: Apostle of Allah! How is it that while they are easy, those who act upon them are few? He replied: The Devil comes to one of you when he goes to bed and he makes him sleep, before he utters them, and he comes to him while he is engaged in prayer and calls a need to his mind before he utters them.

Tasbih, Fasting and Cleanliness> Narrated A man from Banu Sulaym: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) counted them in my hand or in his hand saying: Tasbih (SubhanAllah is half the Mizan (scale), praise be to Allah fills it (completely). AllahuAkbar (Allah is the Greatest) fills the space between Heaven and Earth, fasting is the half of the endurance and cleanliness is half of the faith.

The Poor> Narrated Abu Hurayrah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The poor people will enter Paradise five hundred years earlier than the rich.

The Poor and Humble> Narrated Haritha bin Wahb: I heard the Prophet saying, “Shall I tell you of the people of Paradise? They comprise every poor humble person, and if he swears by Allah to do something, Allah will fulfill it; while the people of the fire comprise every violent, cruel arrogant person.”

Treat your Wives Well> Narrated Abu Hurayrah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The most perfect Muslim in the matter of faith is one who has excellent behaviour; and the beste among you are those who behave best towards their wives.

Truth and Virtue> ‘Abdullah reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Truth leads one to Paradise and virtue leads one to Paradise and the person tells the truth until he is recorded as truthful, and lie leads to obscenity and obscenity leads to Hell, and the person tells a lie until he is recorded as a liar.

Truthfulness> Narrated ‘Abdullah: The Prophet said, “Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar.”

Twelve Rak’ahs> Narrated Anas ibn Malik: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: If anyone prays twelve rak’ahs in the forenoon (Salat ad-Duha) Allah will build for him a castle of gold in Paradise.
Transmitted by Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi said, “This is a gharib tradition which I know only by this line of transmission.” [Tirmidhi]
Two Rak’ahs of the Forenoon> Narrated Abu Hurayrah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “If anyone perseveres in praying the two rak’ahs of the forenoon, his sins will be forgiven him, even if they are like the foam of the sea.”

Umrah and Hajj> Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “(The Performance of) ‘Umra is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise.”

Visit the Sick> Abu Rabi’ reported directly from Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: The one who visits the sick is in fact like one who is in the fruit garden of Paradise so long as he does not return.

Women give Charity> Narrated Zaynab, the wife of Abdullah: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) addressed them saying, “You women should give alms even if it consists of your jewellery, for you will be the majority of the inhabitants of Jahannam on the Day of Resurrection.”

Wudu and 2 Rak’ahs Prayer> Narrated Humran: (the freed slave of ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan) I saw ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan asking (for a tumbler of water) to perform ablution (and when it was brought) he poured water from it over his hands and washed them thrice and then put his right hand in the water container and rinsed his mouth and washed his nose by putting water in it and then blowing it out. Then he washed his face thrice and (then) forearms up to the elbows thrice, then passed his wet hands over his head and then washed each foot thrice. After that ‘Uthman said, “I saw the Prophet performing ablution like this of mine, and he said, ‘If anyone performs ablution like that of mine and offers a two-rak’at prayer during which he does not think of anything else (not related to the present prayer) then his past sins will be forgiven.’

Wudu and Prayer> Narrated Abu Huraira: At the time of the Fajr prayer the Prophet asked Bilal, “Tell me of the beset deed you did after embracing Islam, for I heard your footsteps in front of me in Paradise.” Bilal replied, “I did not do anything worth mentioning except that whenever I performed ablution during the day or night, I prayed after that ablution as much as was written for me.”
