Salāt al-Hājah: the prayer of need

Salāt al-Hājah (“Salāh of Need”) refers to performing two or more rak‘ats of optional salāh with the purpose of fulfilling one’s needs, whether followed by a du‘ā’ or not. This basic notion of Salāt al-Hājah is established in the sources of Sharī‘ah.

The frequency and timings of the Prayers never let the object and mission of life be lost sight of in the maze of worldly activities.
Ibadah (act of worship) is an Arabic word derived from `abd (a slave) and it means submission. It portrays that God is your master and you are His slave and whatever a slave does in obedience to and for the pleasure of his master is worship.
The Islamic concept of worship is very wide. If you free your speech from filth, falsehood, malice, and abuse and speak the truth and talk goodly things and do all these only because God has so ordained to do, they constitute `ibadah, however secular they may look in semblance.
If you obey the law of God in letter and spirit in your commercial and economic affairs and abide by it in your dealings with your parents, relatives, friends, and all those who come in contact with you, then all these activities of yours are worship. If you help the poor and the destitute, give food to the hungry, and serve the ailing and the afflicted persons, and do all this not for any personal gain of yours but only to seek the pleasure of God, they are nothing short of worship. Even your economic activities, the activities you undertake to earn your living and to feed your dependants, are worship if you remain honest and truthful in them and observe the law of God.

Question: Assalamualaikum. I keep missing my Fajir prayer all the time. After I wake up I feel so bad that I have missed it but it keeps happening . Please tell me the importance of fajir prayer and how I can wake up.

Thank you for your question.
Firstly, I’d like to commend you for your concern and worry regarding your obligatory prayers. The fajr prayer (before dawn) is a time when many people are heedless and sleeping. The fact that your heart wants to wake up, yet your body keeps sleeping, and thus you feel regret later that morning, is a gift from Allah Ta’ala.
Allah is keeping you connected to Him through your desire to worship Him and your regret when you falter, but showing you that this connection doesn’t come without effort and yearning on your part. In the end, every step we are enabled to take towards Him is really only because of His divinely-gifted ability (tawfiq) that He blessed us with.

What is Barakah?
A Well-known daee explains it as follows:
والبركة: هي ثبوت الخير الإلهي في الشيء؛ فإنها إذا حلت في قليل كثرته، وإذا حلت في كثير نفع، ومن أعظم ثمار البركة في الأمور كلها إستعمالها في طاعة الله عز وجل.
“Barakah is the attachment of Divine goodness to a thing, so if it occurs in something little, it increases it. And if it occurs in something much it benefits. And the greatest fruits of Barakah in all things is to use that barakah in the obedience of Allah (Subahanahu Wa Ta’ala)”
