Norwegian Doctor Mads Gilbert speaks to MEMO about treating the wounded in Gaza.
UNICEF has said that the Israeli occupation killed around 500 Palestinian children during the war on the Gaza Strip and wounded around 3,000 others.
Chief of UNICEF’s Gaza Field Office Pernille Ironside said that 469 children were killed. The number is expected to rise.
The Turkish government will begin transferring wounded Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Turkey for medical treatment, Prime Minister and president-elect Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday.
“Hopefully starting tonight, we are beginning to transfer our wounded Palestinian brothers to Turkey,” Erdogan said in his first speech following his victory in a presidential election.
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told Reuters in an interview last Wednesday that Turkey was seeking Israeli and Egyptian agreement for an air corridor to evacuate possibly thousands of injured Palestinians.

Families return to Beit Lahia in northern Gaza to pick up the pieces but find their homes almost completely destroyed.

BEIT LAHIA, Gaza Strip – When Israel and Palestinian factions announced a 72-hour ceasefire, Umm Feras Abuelneen, 35, had few choices left open to her except to return to her apartment at al-Nada residential towers in Beit Lahia.
She expected little, but what met her eyes when she reached her home in the northern Gaza Strip was worse. The whole apartment was bombed and smashed. Dust and debris lay scattered everywhere, as if a hurricane had smashed straight into the center of it.
“They [Israel] bombed the hell out of our homes, with their Hellfire missiles, drones, tank-shells and gas which irritates the skin and eyes of my children,” says Abuelneen.
US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says Israel urgently needs more financial aid from the United States for its offensive against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

On Monday afternoon, Reid, a member of the Democratic Party, warned that the Obama administration’s $225 million request to aid Israel during its current war may not be enough, as the Zionist regime continues to massacre Palestinians in Gaza.
Israel has been relentlessly pounding the besieged territory for 21 days. More than 1,050 Palestinians have been killed and thousands wounded, including women and children. In retaliation, Palestinian resistance fighters have fired rockets into Israel.
The Israeli military is now threatening to escalate its war on the coastal enclave by warning Palestinians in areas around the Gaza City to leave their homes.
I can’t still understand this GazaUnderAttack. Why are ordinary civilians being killed in the name of self defense. This babie’s mum was pregnant when she was killed. When the mum arrived at the hospital, they felt something moving and this baby was born in an emergency caesar.
When the doctors gently pulled the tiny newborn from her mother’s womb in an emergency Caesarian section, the woman had already been dead for an hour.
Twenty-three-year-old Shayma al-Sheikh Qanan was eight months pregnant when an Israeli tank shell hit her home in the central Gaza Strip town of Deir al-Balah, reducing it to rubble. She was left in critical condition and her husband, a local radio journalist, was also badly wounded.
“Her body was brought in after an Israeli shelling at 3:00 am on Friday,” said Doctor Fadi al-Kharti, who was at Deir al-Balah hospital when she was rushed in. “We tried to revive her but she had died on the way to hospital.”
Before paramedics managed to dig her out, she had been stuck under the rubble of her home for an hour. “Then we noticed movement in her stomach, and estimated she was about 36 weeks pregnant,” he says. Doctors performed an immediate Caesarian section and saved the baby, who was named after her late mother.

A Norwegian doctor working in Gaza has strongly criticized Israel for using cancer-inducing bombs against Palestinian civilians.
According to Al Ray Palestinian Media Agency, Dr. Erik Fosse recently stated to Press TV that the majority of patients hospitalized in Gaza are civilians injured in attacks on their homes, and that about thirty percent of these victims are children.
Dense Inert Metal Explosive, known as DIME, is an explosive device developed to minimize damage to things that are incidental to the intended target, known as “collateral damage”.
The bombs reportedly effect a relatively small but rather significantly damaging blast radius, and are believed by medical experts to have severe biological effects on those hit with the bomb’s micro-shrapnel.
DIME munitions were developed by the US Air Force, in 2006, and have since been tested repeatedly on the people of Gaza, who, according to the Electronic Intifada, have long served as involuntary lab rats for Israel’s weapons industry.
DIME bombs contain tungsten, a cancer-causing metal which helps to produce blasts which slice through flesh and bone, often completely destroying the lower limbs of people within the blast radius.

The doctor also says that some Palestinians in the besieged enclave have been wounded by a new type of weapon which even doctors with previous experience in war zones do not recognize.
Israel has used banned weapons in the past, including depleted-uranium and white phosphorus, which is nearly impossible to extiguish and leaves its victim hideously burned and scarred, should he or she even survive such an attack.
The ground assault continues in Gaza, today, with nearly 300 reported deaths and over 2,000 wounded in Gaza, to include elderly, disabled and children not even a year old — all victims of targets which include mostly civilian homes, hospitals and municipal facilities.
