Regis, a young, black teenager whose sole aspiration is to be a successful rap artist, must first overcome the underprivileged, drug-ridden French suburbs of his upbringing in this black and white debut from hip-hop musician Abd Al Malik. Amidst his double life as a petty criminal and an aspiring artist, Regis eventually finds Islam after the death of a close friend. The film, based on Malik’s real-life experiences, follows the young convert as he navigates the music industry, street violence and racism, leading him to newfound fame in the world of rap and slam-poetry.

The story of how I reverted to al Islam is a story of plans. I made plans; the group I was with made plans, and Allah made plans. And Allah is the Best of Planners. When I was a teenager, I came to the attention of a group of people with a very sinister agenda. They were and probably still are a loose association of individuals who work in government positions but have a special agenda — to destroy Islam. It is not a governmental group that I am aware of, they simply use their positions in the US government to advance their cause.

A grand jury began hearing evidence Wednesday in the Michael Brown case. But, there’s growing support for the 28-year old police officer, Darren Wilson, who shot the unarmed teenager in Ferguson Missouri. Michael Brown’s funeral is planned for Monday, Aug. 25th.
US police have said they came under “heavy gunfire” and 31 people were arrested during protests in Ferguson, Missouri sparked by the shooting death of a black unarmed teenager by a white policeman.Al Jazeera’s Rob Reynolds reports.

In response to the police shooting that killed an unarmed African-American teen, Michael Brown, protests in St. Louis have turned into a veritable uprising.
Eighteen-year-old Brown was shot to death by an unidentified Ferguson police officer on Saturday afternoon. The St. Louis County Police are doubling down on their claim that Brown physically assaulted the officer who confronted him for reasons that appear to be a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
A Palestinian-American teenager who was badly beaten by Israeli police is visiting Washington to speak to officials there.Tarik Abu Khdeir was arrested while he was on holiday in occupied East Jerusalem the day after his cousin was burnt to death in the city. An alleged video showing his brutal beating sparked international condemnation. Al Jazeera’s Andy Gallacher met the teenager at his home in Tampa, Florida, before his trip to the US capital.
