John Legend’s Twitter comments about the American government’s involvement in the Israel-Gaza conflict were met with the now familiar contrast of applause and distain.

The latest in an ever-growing line of famous faces passing comment on the worsening violence in the Middle East via social media, the singer/songwriter posted the following on US Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent attempts to broker a ceasefire deal between the Israelis and the Palestinians:

“So sick watching our Secretary of State have to grovel so hard to tell Israel how much he loves them while Israeli cabinet shits on him.”

Palestinian children in Gaza are exposed to more violence in their lifetime than any other people

Palestinian children in Gaza are exposed to more violence in their lifetime than any other people, any other children, anywhere in the world. If you look at a child right now who is 10 years old, they’ve been through Cast Lead in 2008-2009, the invasion in 2012, now the invasion and destruction in 2014, in addition to the siege. If you look at the statistics for example, even before Cast Lead, 80% of Palestinian children in Gaza had witnessed some sort of violence against themselves, a friend or a family member. And now you’re getting to the point where probably close to 99% of children in Gaza are being exposed to a level of violence where they have seen family members be killed, murdered, burned alive – there’s nothing like the levels of traumatic exposure that any child in the world has ever been exposed to on a chronic and daily basis.

info-pictogram1 Hamas and Israel have agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire beginning on Friday at 05:00 GMT, but that truce cannot come quickly enough for those coping with the consequences of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. Hospitals are facing a shortage of medical supplies, while hundreds of thousands of people have been left without power or water. Al Jazeera’s Imtiaz Tyab reports from the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

White House says US can’t stop ‘tsunami’ of boycott and isolation if Israel won’t end ‘occupations’

US Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon

The press is expressing marvel/shock at a speech by Philip Gordon, a White House adviser, saying that Israel’s ongoing “occupations” and settlements are driving its international isolation and the boycott movement.

“Philip Gordon blasted Israel,” says PowerLine.  “[H]is oration read as though Gordon is a recent arrival from Planet Zog who has mistaken the Middle East for Finland,” says David Horovitz. His paper captures the story:

“Top Obama official blasts Israel for denying Palestinians sovereignty, security, dignity.

“‘How can Israel have peace if it’s unwilling to delineate a border, end the occupation?’ asks White House Mideast chief, Phillip Gordon, in blistering Tel Aviv speech”
