I could say that my journey to Islam began before I was even aware of it.

I was born with a progressive hearing loss. 

My mother did not realize that I had difficulties hearing until I was 4 years old. 

Once it was discovered, I received my first hearing aids, and began attending a school where hearing and deaf children were integrated.

At first I was placed in classes that contained only deaf children. Then I began to attend some classes with hearing children, and I had a teacher come to help me learn how to integrate. I felt at home there. I did not realize that I was being prepared to leave the school and go to a mainstream public school.

Nigeria: court upholds hijab ban in school, Muslims outraged

A Nigerian court last Friday said the Lagos local government had acted correctly in banning Muslim headscarves (hijab) at public schools, a ruling that drew the ire of the city’s Muslim community, which has vowed to appeal the decision.

“The prohibition of the wearing of hijab over school uniforms within and outside the premises of public schools was not discriminatory,” Justice Modupe Onyeabor of a Lagos high court ruled on Friday.

A 27-year-old Bosnian Muslim immigrant has been named the new Swedish minister of education, setting a role model for young, active Muslims.

The minister, Aida Hadzialic, was named earlier in October in Stefan Löfven’s new cabinet as the new Upper Secondary School and Adult Education Initiative in Sweden, IBNlive reported on Wednesday, October 8.
