Syrian refugees living in the Lebanese town of Arsal say the army will not let them leave without special permission. The town has been a security hotspot since fighters from the al-Qaeda linked group al-Nusra Front and men who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) took control in August. The army is now back in charge, but refugees say they are still being punished. Al Jazeera’s Nicole Johnston reports from Arsal.

By the mercy of Almighty God, Allah, and the hard work of the Muslim brothers and sisters of the North, the groundbreaking and pillings for the first Masjid of the Northeast Canadian Province of Nunavut has been completed, al Hamdulillah. Official permission for the masjid has been obtained and the local elders and authorities have given their blessings. The site will be covered till the snow comes off in June but this foundation will enable us to build the Islamic Center of Iqaluit in the land of the Innuit people (wrongly called Eskimos) for the first time. May Allah empower the Innuit people through Islam and bring into them into the Ummah in crowds.
In Islam, the Devil is known as ʾIblīs (Arabic: إبليس, plural: ابالسة ʾAbālisa) or Shayṭān (Arabic: شيطان, plural: شياطين Shayāṭīn). According to the Quran, God created Iblis out of “smokeless fire or from the pure flame of fire” (along with all of the other jinn) and created man out of clay. The primary characteristic of the Devil, is that he has the power to cast evil suggestions into the heart of men, women, and jinn, Iblis was proud and arrogant and considered himself superior to Adam, since Adam was made from clay and Iblis from smokeless fire. For this act of disobedience, God cursed him to Hell for eternity, but gave him respite until the Day of Judgment (Qiyāmah), after Iblis requested it. Iblis obtained permission from God and vowed that he would use this time to lead all human men and women astray to Hell as a way of revenge against them. By refusing to obey God’s order he was thrown out of Paradise and thereafter he was called “Shaytan”.
