We are all witness to what is happening in Palestine – deplorable, despicable, shameful, horrific and completely avoidable if only some good sense could prevail on all sides. Naturally we, the common people, Muslim or not, are anguished, perplexed and confused about why among those that have power, there is so much apathy and even active complicity with the aggressors and such a lack of sympathy for the oppressed.
Allah made laws of success and failure in this life. These are as foolproof and as incontrovertible as the laws of physics, also established by Allah . These laws must also be learned and taken into account if you want to succeed. For example Allah said about being influential, victorious, powerful and leading people:
One of the most significant transformations that occurred in Islamic history, the legacy of which is apparent even in our own day, was undoubtedly the conversion of Iran from Sunnism to Shi‘ism during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Although there have been other instances throughout Islamic history to bring about religious uniformity for political reasons—the Almohads in Iberia and North Africa being prime examples—the case of the Safavids in Iran is perhaps the only example where such a conversion of territory was both successful, in terms of both the scale of the project and its permanence. The end result was that an entire region of the Islamic world was placed under the exclusive dominion of a single sect, Twelver Shi‘ism, at the expense of others (Sunnism and Zaydi Shi‘ism).
As Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip comes close to 4 weeks, the official Palestinian death toll is 1,650 (over 200 more than were killed by Israel in Cast Lead) and 8,900 have been injured.
For many, this conflict makes no sense and Israel’s arguments that it is to stop rocket attacks is unconvincing. This brief update will provide an overview of the overwhelming death and destruction caused by Israel to the Gaza Strip, beginning with the context of the war.
