Self-cooling, water proof, wrinkle free: meet Veil, the high-tech hijab (Video)

Recent advances in technology have allowed clothing to better adapt to the climate — and that goes for everything from the gear worn to fight fires to your getup for sweating it out at the gym. But, according to 22-year-old entrepreneur Ahmad Ghanem, there’s one group that needs heat-wicking textiles more than anyone: headscarf-wearing Muslim women. The traditional hijab is worn all year round, which can make hot summer days tortuous. With that in mind, Ghanem created Veil, the first-ever line of climate-adaptive hijabs. “No matter how hot it is outside, they wear it — and they wear it with pride,” he explains on his Kickstarter video. “It’s up to us to make their lives a little more comfortable.”

Inspired by performance-wear companies like Nike and Under Armour, the Veil “Cool Dry” hijab is made of a special fabric that keeps wearers 7 to 10 degrees cooler than the standard hijab. The nylon material — which Ghanem found after testing hundreds of different options over the course of two years — blocks 80% of heat, offers UV protection, and is completely waterproof. It’s a simple, yet brilliant, makeover for the garment, which has already seen its fair share of changes over the years.

Clearly, Ghanem is onto something: The crowdsourced project launched just a few weeks ago, and already the company has raised nearly $20,000 (quadruple its $5,000 goal). Customers can pre-order Veil’s Cool Dry hijab until June 20 via Kickstarter, and eventually Ghanem wants to expand into retailers.

As he told BuzzFeed of the brand mission, “I want to continue to innovate, revolutionize, and change the way people see the hijab. These women are the strongest and [steadfast], and they deserve everything. The hate and verbal abuse many of them receive is wrong and unfair, and I hope my brand can inspire them to go out and become what they want to be.” Find out more about Veil in the video below, and donate to the campaignhere. I could say that my journey to Islam began before I was even aware of it.

I was born with a progressive hearing loss.

My mother did not realize that I had difficulties hearing until I was 4 years old.

Once it was discovered, I received my first hearing aids, and began attending a school where hearing and deaf children were integrated.

At first I was placed in classes that contained only deaf children. Then I began to attend some classes with hearing children, and I had a teacher come to help me learn how to integrate. I felt at home there. I did not realize that I was being prepared to leave the school and go to a mainstream public school.

US singer Jennifer Grout converts to Islam (Video)

Though Jennifer Grout, the 23-year-old American singer, doesn’t speak a word of Arabic, she has a rare talent: singing Arabic songs, including Arabic traditional ones, so fluently, so softly and so beautifully.

When Grout participated in Arabs Got Talent last year, she was among the top three finalists, with thousands viewing her spine-tingling performances of songs by Umm Kulthoum on YouTube. More recently, a video of a different kind has been drawing attention to Grout — one showing her announcing her conversion to Islam, which was posted online last month.

While she has actually converted to Islam, though “unofficially”, Grout told tabloid!the posted video is not real.

“Actually the video that everyone has seen is part of a Moroccan film I made before my performance aired on Arabs Got Talent.”

“And I originally was upset, and mostly scared, that it ended up on the internet, because I hadn’t even gotten the chance to tell my family and closest friends about Islam before there were headlines everywhere saying I’d converted. However, now that it’s out there, maybe it’s a positive thing — I am not ashamed of what I believe in,” she added in an email interview.

The posted video shows her declaring, in the presence of two men, the shahada, the declaration of faith that is one of the five pillars of Islam. In the shahada, the person states that “there is no God but Allah and Mohammad [PBUH] is His prophet”.

Grout, who lives in Morocco, explained that she has not gone to the mosque to “confirm her conversion with an Imam or get it on paper”.

“But I say the shahada from my heart. I have recently started to perform the [five] daily prayers.”

My name is Christina and this is how I accepted Islam

Source: http://hadithoftheday.com/

On Christmas Day, 2010, I embraced Islam and became a Muslim. Why? Simply because I felt ready, as a result of a gradual process of growth and change that had been slowly transforming my life over the past year.

I moved to Abu Dhabi, UAE, in the spring of 2010, to teach English. My first time in the Gulf, I didn’t know what to expect but I wanted to understand the culture around me and the religion, which are a vital aspect of everyday life in this part of the world. Hence began my journey to learn about Middle Eastern culture and the people around me, reading books about Islam and the Quran.  I had no intention of changing my own religion. I just wanted to understand Islam.

What do the enemies of Allah SWT want from the Muslim Woman?

hijab-saman-aghvamiThere are  those who want  to distract the Muslima from meeting her noble obligations of  following the religion of Allah SWT as commanded by the Prophet Muhammad SAWS and becoming successful in the Hereafter.

Shaytan and his army use many methods to ruin a Muslima and evict her from her rightful place in Paradise, as he had done with her mother, Hawaa (Eve).
