PALESTINE: WHY IS IT HAPPENING?

We are all witness to what is happening in Palestine – deplorable, despicable, shameful, horrific and completely avoidable if only some good sense could prevail on all sides. Naturally we, the common people, Muslim or not, are anguished, perplexed and confused about why among those that have power, there is so much apathy and even active complicity with the aggressors and such a lack of sympathy for the oppressed.

Allah made laws of success and failure in this life. These are as foolproof and as incontrovertible as the laws of physics, also established by Allah . These laws must also be learned and taken into account if you want to succeed. For example Allah said about being influential, victorious, powerful and leading people:

Indeed, some people may not be able to see with their eyes, but how many of us are blind when it comes to our hearts! This is truly a man who can see, ma’sha’Allah!

[And for those who are quick to complain, let us respect the fact that there may be a difference of opinion amongst the scholars when it comes to reading out of the Quran when it comes to non-obligatory prayers (like the Taraweeh) and remember, “Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day speak good, or keep silent.”]

May Allah open and soften our hearts, Ameen!

Israel’s attacks on Gaza are leading to Coca-Cola boycotts

Turkish businesses have started removing Coca-Cola from shelves, more than a hundred Mumbai hotels are not selling any of its products, and Malaysian pro-Palestinian groups are calling for a boycott in response to the continued Israeli attacks on Gaza, which have killed more than 700 people.

The well-organized “Boycott Israel” movement has been around for many years, and generally ebbs and flows with the intensity of Israeli-Palestinian conflict, part of the larger “BDS” (for boycott, divestment & sanctions) campaign started in 2005. The huge civilian death toll in Gaza, which has been documented by quickly-circulated photographs, and the unrelenting nature of Israel’s missile attacks could make this boycott particularly tough on Coca-Cola, judging from growing support from social media:
