Across Virginia – from Hampton to Richmond, Petersburg to Lynchburg to Wise County and all points in between – approximately 17.8 percent of Virginia’s population live in food desert. This documentary was produced by VSU as part of a study on food insecurity in the College of Agriculture.

Defining Famine: Why Starving People Aren’t Enough (Video)

 Famine has claimed the lives of over a million people in the Horn of Africa (which includes Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan). So what are the causes of famine, and what makes it different than food insecurity? And what criteria does the United Nations use to declare a famine?
