Emotion: an often-neglected, yet significant component of our psychological configuration

Our psychological configuration consists of several components, all of which are interrelated:

  1. The spiritual component, as we say the fitrah, which naturally predisposes us with an inclination towards God and good.
  2. The cognitive component, which assumes all types of mental processes we can have.
  3. The emotional component, which covers the range of emotions we experience, such as anger, sadness, fear, shame, and guilt.

The purpose of this article is to focus exclusively on the emotional component, as it is oft-neglected amongst Muslims; indeed our community habitually focuses on our spiritual and cognitive components instead. This imbalance is significant for two reasons:

There is No Sin in Islam which makes you a Disbeliever (Video)

DOWNLOADBUTTONpasstheknowledge-ptkbannerheadapp

info-pictogram1 It is widely accepted in Islam that there is not even one sin, which when committed, will take you out of the fold of Islam and cause you to be branded a kafir or disbeliever. This includes sins such as drinking alcohol, fornication, adultery, as well as other major sins. Rather it is ones disbelief, which as the name implies, causes one to become a disbeliever. An example would be saying that alcohol is allowed, and denying the verses Allah has revealed in the Quran regarding the prohibition of intoxicants. In this case the person has made halal what Allah has made haram, and rightfully deserves the title of kafir.

The likeness ofshaytan is to that of a fly – every time one pushes him away, he comes back.

Accountability is a lighthouse when the fog of life sets in

By: Suhaib Webb

These days are hard. From Gaza, Ferguson and ISIS, it is difficult to have insight into where the world is today. That question is important. But of more importance is asking where it is now! After all, the answer to that question, is the answer to the first. However, there are times when the fog of the future blinds us from seeing the demands of today.

Stone the Devil in ourselves before the Jamrah in Mina

By: Abdullah Hakim Quick

“In this year’s Hajj Season, Muslims need to stone evil and oppression in the Muslim world with as much emotion as we stone the devil in Mina. Let’s stone greed, tribalism, killing innocent people, leaving the true Sunnah, abusing women, being harsh to people of other faiths, supporting wicked, greedy leaders, living in a fantasy world (1400 years ago), and above all forgetting Almighty Allah in all that we do.”
“let’s end the madness among ourselves and show that Islam is a mercy and a cure for the ills of our times and for all people.”
“ALLAHU AKBAR FOREVER.”

“Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colors and races here in this ancient holy land, the home of ‪#‎Abraham‬, ‪#‎Muhammad‬ and all the other Prophets of the holy scriptures. For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors.
