How do we claim to hate Iblees yet continue to follow his ways? ‘ and pride were the reasons why shaytan was expelled from paradise. Do not let it be the reason for you not gaining an entrance.’

is a much-needed characteristic for all Muslims. Being modest is one of the most crucial traits of a person. We need to acknowledge our own defects and willingly submit to the commandments of Allah swt . The messenger of Allah, Mohammed SAW , was known for his incredible humility and grace. He used to be humble with his companions, at home and with everyone he met.

The Pervasive Effects of Humility

Mideast Saudi Arabia Hajj

By: Lobna Mulla

“A spoonful of humility a day, keeps the ego away.”  Well, it’s not the original saying, but it sends a clear message.  Truly realizing the benefits of being humble can assist us in achieving success not only in this life, but also in the hereafter.

According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, to be humble is to not be proud, arrogant, or assertive.  In Arabic, tawaada (humility) literally means to lower one’s self or to submit.  Taking these definitions together and adding the characteristic of humility as relayed in Qur’anic verses and Prophetic examples, we begin to have a richer understanding of its importance and practical applications.

Random Muslim Person sees inspirational Islamic video on YouTube. Random brother or sister now feels speaker in said YouTube video is the solution to all of their life problems.

Random Muslim Person finds the Facebook fan page of said speaker. They now feel compelled to comment on every single one of their statuses. For example:

Popular Islamic speaker Facebook update: “alhamdulillah Allah (swt) has blessed our family with a new baby, please keep us in your duas.” Random Muslim Person commenting on this status: “OMG SHEIKH CAN YOU PLEEEEEZ VISIT ME IN ANTARCTICA ITS MY DREAM TO MEET YOUUUUUU!!!” The only way this quote could be any more accurate is if it had an Emoji after every third word.

Love it or hate it, celebrity speaker culture is here. I wrote about this topic previously from the perspective of seeking fame. Now it is time to write from the perspective of how we view and approach Islamic speakers.

The Deen Show: Why I left the Baptist church and became a Muslim in Islam (Video)

info-pictogram1 Meet Mr. Dexter who was part of the Baptist Church but after very deep contemplation about life and what he had been taught growing up as a child and wondering about “who do you pray to” Jesus, Holy Ghost or God. He then decided after meeting a Muslim and being so impressed with the Muslims kindness, character and humility that he would look into ISLAM. After looking into Islam he loved the clear and simple concept of only Worshiping the Creator alone and not any of His creations and it’s simple message of how to attain peace and purpose in life. He also loved that Islam was fact based and provided so much authentic evidence to prove that it was the truth.

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) once said: “Near the end of time, there will emerge a people who will be young in age and foolish. They will recite the Qur’an but it will not go further than their collarbones. They will quote the words of the best of mankind but they will pass out of Islam as the arrow passes out of the prey.” (Ahmad: Authentic)
May Allah guide our sincere youth who have gone to extremes back to the balanced path of Allah. May Allah save them from falling into the trap of the Khawaarij (Kharijites)! Never forget this word which Abi Chondro has drawn so beautifully. Real Islam brings beauty, humility, and kindness along with courage and strength. Reflect: SubhaanAllah!!!”

NOUMAN ALI KHAN: ABOUT FAME, A PERSONAL LIFE, AND RESPONSIBILITY

Assalamu Alaikum.  My name is Nouman. I am 36 years old, a father of six and very grateful for having a career that allows me to spend my time doing what I love.

Earlier in my life I developed a passion for the study of the Qur’an and, as a result, of the Arabic language. Now I am running an institute whose sole objective is to spread awareness and appreciation of the Qur’an.  This passion has kept me busy in one way or another for the last fourteen years.  Somewhere along this road, without my conscious realization, I became famous in some circles, notorious in others. I’ve been teaching and giving lectures a long time, but now, suddenly, there are people jumping over each other after a lecture to shake my hand, take a picture or tell me how I’ve changed their life. It’s almost an out-of-body experience and, quite honestly, most of the time I feel like they’re talking about someone else. This enhanced and continually growing public profile has forced me to think about the origins of my work and where it stands now. Actually, I should say it has made me think A LOT about the position in which I find myself. The thoughts I’m about to share with you are personal reflections and are only a commentary from me about me. They are purposely not applicable to any other public speaker, scholar, activist or leader.
