Self-cooling, water proof, wrinkle free: meet Veil, the high-tech hijab (Video)

Recent advances in technology have allowed clothing to better adapt to the climate — and that goes for everything from the gear worn to fight fires to your getup for sweating it out at the gym. But, according to 22-year-old entrepreneur Ahmad Ghanem, there’s one group that needs heat-wicking textiles more than anyone: headscarf-wearing Muslim women. The traditional hijab is worn all year round, which can make hot summer days tortuous. With that in mind, Ghanem created Veil, the first-ever line of climate-adaptive hijabs. “No matter how hot it is outside, they wear it — and they wear it with pride,” he explains on his Kickstarter video. “It’s up to us to make their lives a little more comfortable.”

Inspired by performance-wear companies like Nike and Under Armour, the Veil “Cool Dry” hijab is made of a special fabric that keeps wearers 7 to 10 degrees cooler than the standard hijab. The nylon material — which Ghanem found after testing hundreds of different options over the course of two years — blocks 80% of heat, offers UV protection, and is completely waterproof. It’s a simple, yet brilliant, makeover for the garment, which has already seen its fair share of changes over the years.

Clearly, Ghanem is onto something: The crowdsourced project launched just a few weeks ago, and already the company has raised nearly $20,000 (quadruple its $5,000 goal). Customers can pre-order Veil’s Cool Dry hijab until June 20 via Kickstarter, and eventually Ghanem wants to expand into retailers.

As he told BuzzFeed of the brand mission, “I want to continue to innovate, revolutionize, and change the way people see the hijab. These women are the strongest and [steadfast], and they deserve everything. The hate and verbal abuse many of them receive is wrong and unfair, and I hope my brand can inspire them to go out and become what they want to be.” Find out more about Veil in the video below, and donate to the campaignhere. Hijab in the Bible and Torah

Part 1 – Hijab in Christian Denominations!

The literal meaning of hijab is to veil, to cover or to screen.
It encompasses more than just a dress code; it is concerned with moral boundaries and respect for woman.

It is part of community cohesion and modest behavior. However, the term hijab has become interchangeable with the word scarf.

The meaning is sometimes extended to cultural dress standards such as the burqa of Afghanistan, the chador of Iran and the shalwar kamise of Pakistan.

Hijab has multiple meanings and in this series of articles we are going to focus on hijab as a head covering and discuss hijab in the Bible and the Torah.

After Hardship comes Ease

Muslims have undergone countless trials and suffering during the past few decades. Our oppressors have tortured us, degraded us, raped our women, humiliated our leaders, subjugated our governments but still people are entering Islam, making Tawbah (repentance), reviving their faith, and holding on to the rope of Allah!!! One of the most dangerous attacks has been to our “Modesty”. But Allah is Most Merciful; for despite the pornography, indecent fashion styles, lies and scandal about our culture, Allah has strengthened Muslim women to hold on to Hijab and the Muslim family. May Allah enable Muslim men to appreciate the strength of Muslim women, cherish the gift that a pious Muslim sister gives to the Ummah and repent from ever showing disrespect, malice or ill feeling. May Allah never take this beauty away from us. Surely after hardship and suffering there will come ease, Insha Allah.

Catering to the needs of hundreds of thousands of students, Turkey’s top religious body has announced plans to construct a mosque in every state university, making it easier for Muslim students to observe their prayers.

“Mosques are under construction in over 80 universities,” Mehmet Gormez, the head of Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate, known as Diyanet in Turkish, was quoted by Agence France Presse (AFP).

“Fifteen of them have been opened for prayers and we will open at least 50 more in 2015.”

10 WAYS AMERICAN MUSLIMS CAN HELP SAVE THE WORLD

The world, it appears, has completely lost its mind.  It seems that our tiny planet is staged for a complete disaster with the West and Muslim world as the co-stars.  What’s sad is that all of these problems are based on misunderstandings and lies spread by hate mongers with one interest: growing their bank accounts.  To add insult to injury, citizens from the West and the Muslim world are starting to detest each because they feel the other side is this Great Evil trying to enslave them.  Then there are those caught in the middle: the American Muslims, aka, you and I.  We’re blessed with the conundrum of being, both, Muslims and Americans.  We know that Islam is not about killing the innocent, but, also know that reality tv is not the reality of Western culture.  So what’s a brother/sister to do?

A Nigerian court last Friday said the Lagos local government had acted correctly in banning Muslim headscarves (hijab) at public schools, a ruling that drew the ire of the city’s Muslim community, which has vowed to appeal the decision.

“The prohibition of the wearing of hijab over school uniforms within and outside the premises of public schools was not discriminatory,” Justice Modupe Onyeabor of a Lagos high court ruled on Friday.

Hijab: What Is It All About?

Hijab, My Choice, My Right, and My Freedom

The status of women in Islam is often the target of attacks in the secular media.

The hijab or the Islamic dress is cited by many as an example of the “subjugation” of women under Islamic law.

Yet, the truth is that 1400 years ago, Islam recognized women’s rights in a way that grants them the utmost protection and respect, a combination other systems fail to offer.

Islam granted them freedom of expression, political participation, business and financial rights, and asked the rest of society to hold them in high esteem and offer them due respect as mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters.

What is it about hijab? Why are Muslim women still wearing it?

How can a piece of cloth attract so much attention?
