Israel’s assault on Gaza resulted in the demolition of 63 mosques, including the Grand Mosque in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp
By: Mohammed Asad
While Israel says that Hamas used mosques to stockpile weapons and rocket launchers, Gaza’s Hamas rulers deny the accusation, saying the destruction of 63 mosques in Operation Protective Edge showed Israel has been waging a war against Islam.
On August 14, the Palestinian Authority Tourism and Antiquities Ministry said the destruction of mosques was a war crime, reported Reuters.
PA Tourism and Antiquities Minister Rula Ma’ayah called on the United Nations, particularly the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and its World Heritage Committee to condemn the military targeting of cultural, religious and natural heritage sites as a war crime and a violation of human rights. His ministry said that some of the destroyed and damaged sites were to be on the PA’s list that it wants to see inscribed on the World Heritage List.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are still sheltering in UN-run schools in the Gaza strip. Many of those forced to find refuge have nowhere to go, as their homes have been destroyed. The academic year was scheduled to begin in a week, but that has now been delayed. Al Jazeera’s Jane Ferguson reports from the Gaza Strip.
Gaza: media myths and conflicting narratives. What is the role of social media in the Israeli-Palestinian battle for hearts, minds and political support? And, Gazans reporting from the conflict zone – but is Israel listening?
Cutting the Grass – A bloody ritual in the Israeli Palestinian conflict: Israelis watch the ‘spectacle’ of the bombardment of Gazans (Video)
On a hill on the Western neighbourhood of Sderot, many residents come to look over the Gaza strip, to watch the lunching of rockets from Gaza to Israel, and the attacks, of airplanes and canons of the Israeli army. Israel is continuing to attack Gaza on all fronts with heavy air and drone attacks.
After the takedown of hundreds of Israeli websites, the Anonymous hackers now have leaked the most comprehensive list of Gazan civilian deaths together with a short explanation of the circumstances in which they were killed:
Israel may fear results as for first time, jolted by social media, mainstream channels reveal true conditions in Gaza.

I sometimes wonder about how many businesses have been impacted by the invention of the Internet. Think about it, when we first started typing www, do you think any travel agents said well this is seriously going to kill my business? Did anyone envision the impact of what a store like Amazon would do to traditional business?
Who really thought well one day there will be a virtual store where I can buy costumes for my cat, laundry detergent and a blanket with sleeves. It’s changing something else that I truly never expected, the narrative of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the US.
For the first time, I’ve seen the mainstream media actually devote a considerable amount of time describing not just the current fighting but the conditions that the people of Gaza live under.
Hundreds of attacks send toll soaring, while Gaza’s only power station shuts down after being hit.
A thick column of black smoke was seen rising from the power station on Tuesday, mingling with other plumes sent into the air by Israeli shelling.
Gaza officials said the death toll from the invasion had now reached 1,178, with at least 100 killed since midnight on Tuesday. More than 6,800 Gazans had been injured. The AFP news agency reported that one air raid alone in northern Gaza had killed 10 people on Tuesday.

A Norwegian doctor working in Gaza has strongly criticized Israel for using cancer-inducing bombs against Palestinian civilians.
According to Al Ray Palestinian Media Agency, Dr. Erik Fosse recently stated to Press TV that the majority of patients hospitalized in Gaza are civilians injured in attacks on their homes, and that about thirty percent of these victims are children.
Dense Inert Metal Explosive, known as DIME, is an explosive device developed to minimize damage to things that are incidental to the intended target, known as “collateral damage”.
The bombs reportedly effect a relatively small but rather significantly damaging blast radius, and are believed by medical experts to have severe biological effects on those hit with the bomb’s micro-shrapnel.
DIME munitions were developed by the US Air Force, in 2006, and have since been tested repeatedly on the people of Gaza, who, according to the Electronic Intifada, have long served as involuntary lab rats for Israel’s weapons industry.
DIME bombs contain tungsten, a cancer-causing metal which helps to produce blasts which slice through flesh and bone, often completely destroying the lower limbs of people within the blast radius.

The doctor also says that some Palestinians in the besieged enclave have been wounded by a new type of weapon which even doctors with previous experience in war zones do not recognize.
Israel has used banned weapons in the past, including depleted-uranium and white phosphorus, which is nearly impossible to extiguish and leaves its victim hideously burned and scarred, should he or she even survive such an attack.
The ground assault continues in Gaza, today, with nearly 300 reported deaths and over 2,000 wounded in Gaza, to include elderly, disabled and children not even a year old — all victims of targets which include mostly civilian homes, hospitals and municipal facilities.
