Coca-Cola’s investment in Gaza

Coca-Cola is building a factory in Gaza, but before you applaud such an investment in an area where the economy is shattered and unemployment ranks among the highest in the world, let’s examine the deal more closely. Who will actually benefit from this? It’s a rhetorical question really, because the Palestinians living there will be the long-term losers while the neighbouring State of Israel will count the shekels rolling in.
The first of the materials to build the factory came via Israel with a convoy of 10 trucks carrying assembly line machines through the Yitzhak Rabin border terminal; from there the lorries were processed by the Israeli military into Gaza through the Kerem Shalom border crossing last week. This, in itself, is amazing, since only 130,000 tons of construction materials have been allowed into Gaza since the latest Israeli blitz; five million tons are needed to try to rebuild the factories bombed to destruction by Israel in its last two wars against the civilians of Gaza.
Thousands of families are still without homes in the depths of a Gaza winter and some of the dead are still buried under the tons of rubble where tower blocks stood before the Israeli military destroyed them. Despite international promises of humanitarian aid and a massive rebuilding programme nothing of any substance has happened because of the ongoing siege of the territory led by Israel and Egypt.
What is that Coke doing in your fridge?

Coming hot on the heels of its successful #HandsOffAlAqsa campaign, UK based NGO, Friends of Al Aqsa(FOA) has launched a brand new popular drive, this time aimed at a ubiquitous global brand it says is aiding the oppression of the Palestinian people.
Creatively dubbed the #NotInMyFridge campaign, FOA says it is calling through the drive for a global boycott of Coca-Cola in response to the multinational’s “support of Israel and it’s illegal and immoral occupation.”
“We must be clear, no matter how big a company is, its brand will be damaged if it supports the illegal occupation of Palestine,” the NGO states in its campaign material.

Calls are growing for high sugar drinks to be taxed in the same way as cigarettes to curb rising obesity. Does the drinks industry’s resistance echo that of the tobacco industry denial in the 1960s? Jeremy Paxman spoke to James Quincey, president of Coca Cola Europe.

Turkish businesses have started removing Coca-Cola from shelves, more than a hundred Mumbai hotels are not selling any of its products, and Malaysian pro-Palestinian groups are calling for a boycott in response to the continued Israeli attacks on Gaza, which have killed more than 700 people.
The well-organized “Boycott Israel” movement has been around for many years, and generally ebbs and flows with the intensity of Israeli-Palestinian conflict, part of the larger “BDS” (for boycott, divestment & sanctions) campaign started in 2005. The huge civilian death toll in Gaza, which has been documented by quickly-circulated photographs, and the unrelenting nature of Israel’s missile attacks could make this boycott particularly tough on Coca-Cola, judging from growing support from social media:
What happens to our bodies after drinking Coke?
Have you ever wondered what Coke actually is?
After ten minutes …
Ten teaspoons of sugar in a glass of cola cause a devastating attack on the organism . The only reason why there is no vomiting occurs , it is the phosphoric acid which inhibits the effect of the sugar .
After twenty minutes …
Is there an increase in insulin instead . The liver converts the sugar to fat .
After forty minutes …
The uptake of caffeine has been completed. Enhance the pupils of the eyes . The blood pressure is increased, because the liver more sugar drains into the blood stream. The adenosine receptors are blocked , preventing drowsiness .
After 45 minutes …
The body increases the production of the dopamine hormone , which stimulates the feeling of pleasure in the brains . This works in the same way as for heroin .
After an hour …
Phosphorus acids bind to calcium , magnesium and zinc in the gastrointestinal tract, which is the digestion overloaded. Calcium is released to a greater extent in the urine .
After more than an hour …
The diuretic effect of cola now comes into the picture . The calcium , magnesium and zinc have been removed from the organism , which are part of the bones , as well as sodium . At this moment we are irritable and retained . The amount of water in the cola has already passed in the urine .
Coca-Cola formula is addictive
“While cocaine was removed from Coca-Cola long ago, the current formula is even more addictive. Each can of Coke contains a full 10 teaspoons of sugar, over 110% of your recommended daily intake. According to the Cleveland Clinic – women should take in no more than 6 teaspoons per day, men, no more than 9. Too much sugar can cause weight gain, diabetes and high blood pressure, all of which raise the risk of heart disease. Because your body knows this, if you took this much sugar in directly, it would cause uncontrollable vomiting. To overcome this, Coca-Cola adds phosphoric acid to cut the sweetness and trick the body.”
