“I want to be growing, I want to be expanding. I want to be changing”

“People say to you, ‘you’ve changed’, or something like that. Well, I hope, for the sake of God, that I have changed, because I don’t want to be the same person all my life. I want to be growing, I want to be expanding. I want to be changing. Because animate things change, inanimate things don’t change. Dead things don’t change. And the heart should be alive, it should be changing, it should be moving, it should be growing and its knowledge should be expanding.”

Garden Pool: How An Old Swimming Pool Feeds A Family And Is Changing Food Production Science (Video)

info-pictogram1 Five years ago, a busted old swimming pool sat out of commission on the property of a foreclosed home in Mesa, Arizona, and from that damaged amenity, the Garden Pool movement was cultivated.

In 2009, Dennis and Danielle McClung bought that foreclosed home and empty swimming pool in need of expensive repairs. Instead of fixing up the swimming pool, McClung transformed the swimming pool into a self-sufficient, mini ecosystem. McClung built a plastic cap over the old swimming pool and began cultivating food where people once swam.

The Garden Pool featured a closed-loop ecosystem where tilapia, algae, and duckweed flourished alongside broccoli and sweet potatoes. McClung’s goal was to feed a family of five and within a calendar year, their Garden Pool saved the family 75 percent on their grocery bills.

It is quite scary to know you’re changing but not know who you are becoming

The process of waiting in your cocoon requires the ability to sit still in darkness without knowledge of where or when Allah will break you out. And it might seem that even prayer doesn’t quell your worry. And that may lessen your faith in prayer. But don’t lose faith in your prayers let alone give up on them. They don’t always take away the trial or make it easier. They do however serve the purpose of reinforcing the invisible protective material keeping your cocoon strong. Because metamorphosis is always the most vulnerable time in our lives. And where our heart and soul is more susceptible to damage. Don’t give up the fight. — #ConversationsWithMyself

It’s never been exactly cozy between American Muslims and African Americans. But with Ferguson—and Gaza—that’s changing.
The Muslim-American community of which I’m part hasn’t been great in standing up with and for African Americans. A lack of empathy and racism are the main culprits. What makes this especially astonishing is that 30 percent of the Muslim-American population is African American. You would think that there would be natural alliances, but that hasn’t been the case. At least not up until now. Read the rest of this entry

We are witnessing a growing trend of addictions to what I would like to call demoralising desires and temporary pleasures.

We know of our purpose, we know of our destination — so why do we continue to live for the dunya (this world, as opposed to the Hereafter) as if it were our only goal and the real essence of our existence?

This life is but a preparation for the next. We must focus on our destination and choose our paths wisely.

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. [Qur’an: Chapter 51, Verse 56]

Yet we find ourselves sitting in front of televisions, computer screens and game consoles, investing our precious time in unprofitable matters, and in many cases, haram exposure. We waste away our wealth in masking our insecurities and fulfilling a moment’s thrill for a lifetime of debt. We are even shamelessly falling deep into the culture of drugs and alcohol despite their clear forbiddance in the Qur’an!

As a father, nothing is more painful than seeing our Muslim children around the world suffering. We see the Syrians, Palestinians, Iraqi, Afghani – slaughtered and their blood streaming into rivers.

However, as I sat watching, listening and reading the many many condemnations of the Israeli atrocities against our brethren in Palestine, on websites, in the masjid, on YouTube, news agencies around the world – after seeing all the appeals, petitions, marches, protests and pleas for help from many organizations and people, this is the thought that came to mind: Why would Allah (swt) – hurt his own people who worship him?

Then, I thought – Allah loves his people 70 times more than a mother loves her children. Then why is Allah allowing this to happen?? After opening the Quran and reading numerous Ahadith – the answer was clear. When Allahs anger is in full force – when his obedience is lost, when his beloved messenger example is mocked, when his people forget his message and his prophetic way — He (swt) will send reminders.
War, blood, pain, killing and the loss of our innocent children — the only reminder we understand.

With over 50 years of Palestinian conflict – years of debate – our eyes, hearts are sealed with the real problem. Syrian massacre in front of us – a country shredded with no end of war in sight. Iraq millions butchered. Afghanistan shelled for decades…and all the other Muslim nations similar and screaming for help.

The cause? The cause is not the Jews, Zionists, Munafiqs, Freemasons, Bilderbergs – they are not the reason – but only a means; a tool Allah has used to wake up this ummah. But 99% are still asleep.

Late last year, a Horizon documentary aired on BBC 2 named, “Eat, Fast and Live Longer” (see video above). In the documentary Dr Michael Mosley set himself a truly ambitious goal: he wants to live longer, stay younger and lose weight in the bargain. And he wants to make as few changes to his life as possible along the way. He discovers the powerful new science behind the ancient idea of fasting, and he thinks he’s found a way of doing it that still allows him to enjoy his food. Michael tests out the science of fasting on himself – with life-changing results.
