The 10th of Muharram marks the day Musa (peace be upon him) and the Children of Israel were saved from Pharaoh and his army. Historically, Jews would keep a fast to mark this occasion and Muslims have continued this tradition by keeping an optional fast on this day as well as an additional fast a day before or a day after. The incident is mentioned in various places in the Qur’an and it is also mentioned in the Old Testament in the ‘Book of Exodus’.
The story of the splitting of the sea is well known but what lessons can we learn from this? Here are 5 lessons we can learn from Musa’s escape from Pharaoh.

Catering to the needs of hundreds of thousands of students, Turkey’s top religious body has announced plans to construct a mosque in every state university, making it easier for Muslim students to observe their prayers.
“Mosques are under construction in over 80 universities,” Mehmet Gormez, the head of Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate, known as Diyanet in Turkish, was quoted by Agence France Presse (AFP).
“Fifteen of them have been opened for prayers and we will open at least 50 more in 2015.”

The raining of missiles on families in Palestine-Gaza , the merciless killing of innocent civilians in Syria, ethnic cleansing in Myanmar, torture and rape in Afghanistan and Iraq, the banning of niqaab in France, war in Somalia, Chechnya etc. The list is extensive.
