It is a well-known fact that several religious texts forbid the eating of pork. According to Leviticus, the third book of Judaism’s Torah and Christianity’s Old Testament, pork is an “unclean” meat since pigs do not “chew the cud.” Meanwhile, the eating of pork is condemned no less than four times in the Qur’an of Islam. While no direct reason is given for this condemnation, many Muslims believe that it is because pigs are disease-ridden animals.

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) — Renewed Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed 20 Palestinians since a temporary ceasefire collapsed on Tuesday, a health ministry spokesman said Wednesday.
Ashraf al-Qidra said that Zaki Suleiman al-Rai, 54, died from wounds sustained early Wednesday.
The bodies of Mustafa Rabah al-Dalou, 14 and Wafaa Hussein al-Dalou were also recovered from the wreckage of the al-Dalou family home in Gaza City.
Nepal landslide victims ‘will never be found’
Authorities say there is “no chance” of finding 159 people believed missing and buried by a landslide in Nepal’s north.

There is no chance of finding more than 150 people who are believed to have been buried by a massive landslide in northern Nepal, an official said on Sunday, as rescuers struggled to dig through piles of rock, mud and trees.
Rescuers have so far recovered only eight bodies since the landslide early Saturday blocked a mountain river, the Sunkoshi, causing the water to form a lake that threatenend to burst and sweep several villages. Fresh rainfall on Sunday hampered search attempts.
