Arnoud van Doorn shot to fame in 2008 as one of the names associated with the anti-Muslim film Fitna, which was released in 2008. The film promoted misconceptions about Islam and Arnoud was one of the film’s distributors.
Five years later, Arnoud was a changed man having learned more about Islam, which he today calls as ‘a religion of peace’. He converted to #Islam after learning more about the religion and his decision shocked the world.
“I saw my father become more peaceful after converting to Islam. That’s when I realised there is something good in this #religion and it made me change my perception of Muslims. I started studying the Holy #Quran and going through lectures of important scholars,” said Iskander in an interview with Khaleej Times.
Arnoud van Doorn, a former far-right Dutch politician who later accepted Islam and became a Muslim, has announced his plans to launch a new Islamic party in his native Holland.
The Islamic Party for Unity will be contending for three seats in the upcoming municipal elections on March 19.
Doorn, who once co-produced the anti-Islamic film ‘Fitna’ along with former friend and notorious anti-Muslim propagandist Geert Wilders, told the NL Times on Sunday that it was ‘only logical’ for Muslims to have political representation.
“Our standpoints are based on the Islam. We come up for minorities and the welfare of animals,” he said. Asked about what his party’s stance would be on homosexuals, Doorn said that all acts of affection in general were private affairs and thus should be kept private.
Doorn accepted Islam after criticisms of the film ‘Fitna’ encouraged him to look into Islam. Shortly after converting, he performed the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. He now acts as a voice for Holland’s one million Muslims, around 15,000 of whom are like himself converts to the religion.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, head of the Presidency for the Two Holy Mosques, on Tuesday honored Arnoud van Doorn, a prominent Dutch politician who embraced Islam, by conferring on him his cloak. Van Doorn was a leading member of the rightist Freedom Party of Geert Wilders who produced “Fitna” film abusing the Prophet (peace be upon him).
The heart-warming event took place at the opening of a conference on Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh. The conference’s participants, including academics and religious scholars, applauded Sudais’ gesture.
“This again reflects the greatness and truthfulness of Islam as a divine religion,” said Fuad Kawther, an engineer interested in dawa activities. He also pointed out that some of the staunch enemies of the Prophet used to stand near by his house during the night to listen to his recitation from the Holy Qur’an.
“Three staunch enemies — Abu Jahl, Abu Sufiyan and Uqbat — agreed among themselves not to visit the Prophet’s house to secretly listen to the verses from the Qur’an, but broke that deal and visited the house again and again because they could not resist the divine word and also because they were fascinated by the literary beauty of the Qur’an,” Kawther told Arab News.
