Syrian Refugees ‘Trapped in Arsal (Video)
Syrian refugees living in the Lebanese town of Arsal say the army will not let them leave without special permission. The town has been a security hotspot since fighters from the al-Qaeda linked group al-Nusra Front and men who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) took control in August. The army is now back in charge, but refugees say they are still being punished. Al Jazeera’s Nicole Johnston reports from Arsal.

US supplied TOW anti-tank missiles have ended up in the hands of Jabhat Al Nusra, Syria’s branch of Al Qaeda. The US provided the missiles to CIA vetted Syrian rebel faction Harakat Hazm in May. A video posted by Al Nusra shows the weapons being used to take over Syrian military bases, Wadi Deif and Hamidiyeh in Idlib province.

The 10th of Muharram marks the day Musa (peace be upon him) and the Children of Israel were saved from Pharaoh and his army. Iraqi military forces backed by Shia volunteer fighters have recaptured 30 villages from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group east of Baghdad, the ministry of defence has said.
Al Jazeera’s Imran Khan, reporting from Baghdad, said that the army was trying to build “offensive chains” in Diyala province.
