New Muslim: How to Minimize the Stress?

With negative pressure from fellow Muslims at the mosque, the daily media pressure of negative news about Muslims and Islam, and all the challenges of learning a new religion and getting the right understanding about Islam, many new Muslims find themselves more stressed than ever before.

Which can lead them to wonder where is the peace promised in Islam?

How does a new Muslim cope with all these pressures?

The False Messiah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

وَاتَّقُوا فِتْنَةً لا تُصِيبَنَّ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مِنْكُمْ خَاصَّةً وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ

“And fear the ‘Fitnah’ which affects not in particular those of you who do wrong (but it may afflict all the good & bad people together), and know that Allah is severe in punishment.” (Aayah No. 25, Surah Al-Anfal, Chapter No. 8, Holy Qur’an).

Allah warns His servants of Fitnah (trials & tests) that encompasses the wicked and those around them. Such Fitnah will not be restricted to the sinners and evildoers; rather, will reach others also if sins are not stopped and prevented. Such Fitnah will be everywhere around us as told by our Prophet (PBUH): “…I see the places of tribulation among your houses like the places where rain falls” – (Hadith No. 7245 (2885), Book of Tribulations & Portents of the Hour, Sahih Muslim, Vol. 7).

So, Fitnah will be everywhere, in our houses even; it may appear in many different forms. And today we are going to discuss one such form of Fitnah.

What Muhammad (pbuh) said about Racism

“Narrated by Abu Dharr Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said to him, “You are not better than people with red or black skins unless you excel them in piety.”

Islam is not something left to the intellect and opinions of men

May Allaah have mercy upon you. Know that the Religion is what came from Allaah, the Blessed and Most High. It is not something left to the intellect and opinions of men. Knowledge it is what comes from Allaah and His Messenger, so do not follow anything based upon your desires and so deviate away from the Religion and leave Islaam. There will be no excuse for you since Allaah’s Messenger explained the Sunnah to his Ummah and made it clear to his Companions and they are the Jamaa’ah, and they are the Main Body (as-Sawaad ul-A’dham), and the Main Body is the truth and its followers.

So he who contradicts the Companions of Allaah’s Messenger sallallahu alaihiwasallam in any of the affairs of the Religion, then he has fallen into disbelief.

Belief in Oneness of God

Hadith: Narrated Mu’adh ibn Jabal: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said to Mu’adh: The key to Paradise is the testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah. Transmitted by Ahmad.
