In response to the police shooting that killed an unarmed African-American teen, Michael Brown, protests in St. Louis have turned into a veritable uprising.

Eighteen-year-old Brown was shot to death by an unidentified Ferguson police officer on Saturday afternoon. The St. Louis County Police are doubling down on their claim that Brown physically assaulted the officer who confronted him for reasons that appear to be a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The police, however, say that Brown tried to reach for the officer’s weapon inside a police car. But both key eye witnesses said something very different. They claim that Brown was shot with his arms up as he tried to flee the officer’s gun fire.

Dorian Johnson says that he was walking in the street with Brown when an police confronted them. The officer drew his weapon and fired repeatedly.

“He [the officer] shot again and once my friend felt that shot, he turned around and put his hands in the air,” Johnson said in an interview with local outlet, KMOV News 4. “He started to get down and the officer still approached with his weapon drawn and fired several more shots.”

“Police said Brown pushed the officer back into the police car,” KMOV reporters claim. “According to police, Brown then entered the officer’s vehicle and a struggle ensued over the officer’s weapon.

But St. Louis County NAACP President Esther Haywood said that Brown was “shot once by the officer and then an additional nine times as he [lay] in the street.”

The yet-unidentified officer, is a six-year veteran of the force, and has been placed on paid administrative leave while the St. Louis community continues to unite and rally against police brutality. Meanwhile, the mainstream, corporate media have focused on anecdotal, isolated incidences of violence and vandalism in order to frame this massive rallying point for the African American and anti-racist communities in St. Louis, as nothing more than “riots.”

The St. Louis County NAACP has announced that it is launching its own investigation, independent of that of the St. Louis County Police investigation.

Martin Luther King Jr. said: “Riots are the language of the unheard.”

These are the “unheard.” Help spread the word and SPEAK OUT. Whatever your background, or culture, this is an issue of JUSTICE!
